The Director of Financial Aid is responsible for providing seamless operations and superior service to financial aid applicants, their families, and members of the university community. As a highly visible representative of Marshall University, and an integral part of the Student Affairs team, the Director of Financial Aid establishes procedures and guidelines regarding the effective and efficient distribution of financial aid among applicants and enrolled students, while meeting the institution's enrollment, budget and net tuition revenue goals. The Director of Financial Aid oversees and administers an annual financial aid program composed of institutional funds, Title IV aid, and State grants and loans to a diverse population of Undergraduate, Graduate, PhD and professional students. The Director is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the Student Financial Assistance team including: training of staff, maintaining currency on Federal, State and Institutional regulations, engaging new and continuing students in the Financial Aid Process, and assisting in aid leveraging and retention plans. Responsibilities: * Devise and implement packaging policies and procedures for awarding institutional aid and interpret and implement federal and state regulations pertaining to compliance * Direct the analysis of students' need and consult with and train staff to resolve need-analysis issues. * Oversee compliance with NCAA regulations and appeals * Responsible for ensuring the institution is in compliance with regulations related to federal and state financial aid programs * Responsible for completing all Federal Reports - Fiscal Operation Report and Application to Participate in Federal Programs (FISAP), Eligibility and Certification Report (ECAR), Gainful Employment, etc. * Serves as Chair of the University Satisfactory Academic Appeals Committee and Athletic Scholarship Appeals Committee * Provides leadership for ongoing projects and initiatives in SFA * Direct and allocate institutional scholarship budgets, loan portfolio, and student appeals. * Oversee staff in guiding students and families through all stages of enrollment via interpersonal counseling, publications, workshops, and correspondence with a keen eye towards constituent service * Select, train, supervise, and evaluate all staff, with responsibility for meeting all communication, and state and federal compliance goals * Develop and coordinate programming and advising tools related to financial aid and financing options, including Open House and orientation sessions, entrance and exit counseling, and financial management workshops. * Assist with University's retention efforts through strategic assessment of student financial capacity. * Create and execute affordability strategies that manage student debt and prevent loan defaults * Coordinate disbursement issues with Student Accounts, the Bursar's Office, and other University offices * Ensure completion of all surveys and required data reporting in coordination with the Institutional Research Office * Serve on University committees as assigned * Travel and attend key conferences; participate in professional groups, seminars and or courses and provide for Financial Aid staff development * Resolve disbursement issues with Student Accounts and other University offices * Responsible for the prompt delivery of federal and institutional financial aid * Maintains the Net Price Calculator Tool * Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: * Master's degree from regionally accredited college/university. * At least 7 years of progressive experience and demonstrated success working with Federal and State financial aid programs and institutional tuition discounting * Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills * Ability to work independently, as well as part of a diverse, dynamic team of professionals * Demonstrated Supervisory and administrative experience * Demonstrated Excellence in customer/student service skills * Experience with a Student Information System (SIS) preferably Ellucian's Banner Financial Aid System Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
